What is acid reflux?
If bacteria are not the source of the ulcer, your doctor may prescribe acid-blocking medication. Treatment for GERD includes over-the-counter antacids, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and H2 blockers. Lifestyle changes like eating smaller meals, avoiding fatty or spicy foods, avoiding smoking and maintaining a healthy weight are helpful in managing the symptoms of GERD.
I wake in the middle of the night choking on reflux. I endure heartburn, bloating, not being able to wear tight clothes, sore throat and occasionally a burnt tongue. I do not know what my future holds. I eat only bland, white, foods most of the time.
If you’ve changed the way you eat but you’re still suffering, it might be worth trying an elimination diet. The low FODMAP diet is a temporary elimination diet that avoids foods that you might not digest properly, and can work well for acid reflux sufferers.
Reflux in Children
If GERD is severe and unresponsive to medical treatment, a surgical intervention known as fundoplication may be needed. Any reflux is then relatively harmless as it consists of alginic acid and not damaging stomach acid. PPIs and H2 blockers decrease acid production and reduce the potential for damage caused by acid reflux.
I can have an almost normal life most of the time, except after I take antibiotics. Then my problems become unmanageable. I get reflux and IBS symptoms all the time, my stomach wonâ€™t leave the food go and I get asthma (my peak flow readings fall from 650 to around 450). So yeah, for me antibiotics seem to be the cause. I have idiopathic gastroparesis and all the symptoms you mention.There are some great videos on YouTube for learning about it.
I notice it is not anywhere near as bad if i am eating a no grain meal, versus a meal with starch/grains. But it still happens with bone broth soups, steak and salad, etc. Thankfully, there are a bunch of things you can do for acid reflux treatment and prevention. For starters, you can try to pinpoint your reflux triggers (e.g. smoking, fatty or fried foods, alcohol, or coffee) and avoid them as much as possible. You can also try to avoid eating meals late at night (lying down after a meal makes it easier for acid to travel upwards).

For a patient with typical symptoms of dyspepsia who requires testing to exclude other diseases, a standard screening panel of blood tests would reasonably be included. These tests might reveal clues to non-gastrointestinal diseases. Sensitive stool testing (antigen/antibody) for Giardia lamblia would be reasonable because this parasitic infection is common and can be acute or chronic. Some physicians do blood testing for celiac disease (sprue), but the value of doing this is unclear.
If I eat corn it numbs my stomach n taste rotten. If I eat now four hours later the food is sitting heavy in my stomach. I burp repeatedly all day.
But STILL I have problems. Been treated for GERD for 3 months after complaining of chest pain and burning sensation on my chest and back. Recently (December) I have had chest burning again and this time itâ€™s serious as its now 24-hr. Went to a doctor, thinks I have anxiety but told me to do barium meal test. I did but told me my esophagus is not too narrow.
I decided to go to another GI doctor and who prescribed a different medication to help with the discomfort of the burning, which I only experience in my throat. I still don’t have any resolution to this problem and am really frustrated.
